My Paintings - Green and Gold Series
“There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Afterward you can remove all traces of reality’ – Picasso
This sums up how I work when I paint. I begin with an image, and with layers of oils, acrylics, mixed media, resins, gold leaf & spray paint. As they all layer over each other, they begin to fragment the image , to destroy the form , ungoverned, no limits. For me its about about nature and emergence.
I have learnt to let go of expecting something from my painting, now I just let it be what it is, with its own voice. The more I expected something, the more I was forcing it.
Im interested in creating an emotional impact of colour, texture & atmospheric condition. Balance. Beauty. Thats when it takes on a life of its own. I just want it to be beautiful, and I want it to influence a space in a positive way. To make you feel good.
Its important to loose yourself in the work without worrying of the end result. Actually when you bathe in the uncertainty and don't worry about the end result, thats when I actually create something worth my time.
You will see a lot of gold in my work, and to be totally honest with you,
I am more concerned with making something beautiful, something so stunning, that it lights you up, that it makes you feel amazing when you look at it, or at least that it makes you feel something. I love gold in jewellery and I love reflections. Thats where the inspiration for using the resins came from. The Mediterranean also had something to do with the colour palette. Luminosity. As you may have noticed from my photography, luminosity is pretty current in my work.
